"Mircea cel Batran" Naval Academy is a main-partner in Romania for the Ronomar project.
The Naval Academy of Constanta was founded 135 years ago and has a Merchant Marine Faculty (focusing on navigation, maritime transport, naval electro-mechanics, and port operations) and a Navy Faculty (focusing on navigation, hydrographs, naval equipment, and naval electro-mechanics).
The learning programs aim to the development of the technical theoretical education, practice onboard ships, IMO issued standards and regulations, leadership and management knowledge and skills. They are updated on a regular basis according to feedback received from shipping companies, crewing companies and the national naval authority. The Naval Academy provides master degree programs in maritime transport respectively mechanical and electrical engineering. The university has over 250 graduates per year and has close international cooperation with universities in other countries.
Before graduation, students of the Merchant Marine Faculty are required an overall period of practice of 12 months (for deck officers) and 6 months (for engineers). This is done on board ships owned by major maritime companies (through agreements with crewing agencies) and on board the Naval Academy's training ships squadron.
Research and development in the Naval Academy is carried out according to the contracts signed among its partners. It covers innovation and research work focus towards the needs of economic enterprises, the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Education and Research.
